Pet Tech was founded by Thom Somes, "The Pet Safety Guy." Before Pet Tech, Thom worked for The Red Cross as a human CPR and First Aid trainer, who taught the 'higher ups' at hospitals - CEOs, heads of staff, etc. when it came time for them to renew their CPR Certifications. In addition to this, he worked for many years as a Search and Recovery Diver. During one of his CPR classes, a student asked him, "So, Thom, this is great and all, but what if I needed to do this to my dog?" Thom didn't know. Instead of leaving it at that, Thom, who had always loved pets, began his vision of Pet Tech.
Thom went on to get his Vet Tech I, II, and III degrees - everything short of enrolling in actual Veterinarian school! He then began work on his brain child, the Petsavers program. Once he had compiled the information the best he felt was possible, he gathered a board of Vets to approve his information. That board of Vets still works with Thom on the classes as they work to update and refresh the courses as new knowledge or techniques become available! Because of this, Pet Tech is the premiere Pet CPR and First aid training company in the world!
Thom wanted to spread the word, so he began training programs across the US in the following years, so that hopefully every pet parent and professional would be able to find a class close enough to them. His hope is that every person who has hands on fur at any point in their day will know the PetSavers program, so millions of pets' lives around the world can be not only saved in an emergency situation, but also to improve the quality of life for pets from the teeniest puppies and kittens to the most senior dogs and cats.
For years, Pet Tech has been the most recognized pet CPR and first aid course in the country. It's the training course used by the majority of professional pet care organizations as well as Homeland Security and the TSA. The Pet Tech First Aid and CPR class is an intensive course that combines lecture, demonstration, and hands-on skills practice. The course is designed to give a person the fundamental skills and a game plan is case a pet in their care has a medical emergency.
